I want to block out the bust road I live next to (I'm in Utah). What would be the best bushes to plant that grow really really fast? I want them to be as tall as possible, as quickly as possible. Also, when is the right time to plant them? Thanks!

I'm in the Chicago area. We'd like to plant a nice shade tree on a sunny corner of our lot (right where the local parade passes by in the summer). We only want to spend about $100, so it won't be a full sized tree, but should be bigger than a sapling.

If we plant one that size this weekend, will it survive the winter? Will planting it now give it a chance to establish strong roots before spring?

Or, should we wait to plant in the spring?

We live in a townhome community and the association takes care of mowing grass but not weeding. We have one flower bed out front that we have tried putting down the heavy landscaping plastic and piling mulch high but no matter what we have weeds. We are an older couple and keeping it weed free is hard. I'm afraid Roundup would also kill the shrubs. Any ideas?

I ordered some predator mites to take care of a mite infestation. It came in a plastic bottle with what looked like tiny wood chips. I didn't see any mites in there. I sprinkled it on the leaves like it said. That was 2 days ago. I still don't see any predators, is that normal? I know they are small, but I just want to make sure this problem is getting solved. Anyone with experience can shed some light on this situation?

I have a cacti garden planted in a self-watering container. They did alright for awhile, but now they are developing white spots where the spikes come out of the cactus and they are dying.

I am not really looking to make good soil, I just want to avoid putting waste food in the landfills. Is it okay to just dig a hole or just throw waste food in the woods of my backyard?
