I am not really looking to make good soil, I just want to avoid putting waste food in the landfills. Is it okay to just dig a hole or just throw waste food in the woods of my backyard?

SINCE YOU AREN'T LOOKING TO MAKE A COMPOST, JUST PUT IT IN THE WOODS, BUT PUT IT IN THE GROUND SO YOU DON'T BRING IN RATS, RATCOONS, ETC. IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH GOATS, CHICKENS, OR PIGS THEY WOULD BE GLAD TO HAVE IT.

Use the stuff you are throwing out in a pile of leaves away from your house and turn once every couple of weeks and you can make a great way to make compost to use when planting..if you throw scraps out in the woods you will have a problem with wildlife hanging around.

Yes it is. We had one inour back yard and we put everything in it. & the grass all around it would gro 2 or 3 times faster then the rest of the lawn. The dirt is great for the garden. and the worms are very good for fishing. We just put up a small chicken wire fence about 6X6 and it did the trick. Great for leaves, grass clippings, food and what not.

Well you can get some chicken wire and posts. and if you put it at least 20 feet from your house you wont smell it. but dont do it if you live in the city your neighbors wil complain so much you phone will ring off the hook. composts are a very good way to recycle

Do this only if you want wildlife all over your property. Many of these creatures will start invading your space looking for shelter in the winter also. The smell would not be pleasant either.

If you want the wildlife to thrive, you should just throw the food products in the woods. Please don't mix trash with the food as the animals don't have trash cans.
