Mow it opposite directions (criss-cross) on alternating weeks. Then, edge it with a hand-held blade edger (you don't need one of those big contraptions).

Make sure the mower blade is sharp and the mower is adjusted to the proper height.

The "ideal" and "correct" way to mow is to mow the one direction and the immediately mow it in the opposite direct.
I have done it a few times and it really looks sharp. Also, NEVER mow your lawn in the same direction twice. I have four different patterns that I mow mine in. I use a different pattern every time I mow. Sometimes in the summer, I mow twice a week. Make sure the blade is sharp and "DO NOT CUT THE GRASS TOO SHORT". Many people like to "scalp" the lawn every time they mow so they don't have to mow so often. Bad for the grass!!!! Bermuda and St. Augustine should be cut so you have 2 1/2 to 3" of growth.
