Milorganite is used a lot on golf courses and is high in nitrogen (6-2-0). It is an organic fertilizer.
We planted daffodils in various spots in the lawn and gave them a little bone meal last fall. This spring, the grass around the daffodils was very green and grew quite rapidly.

One that has more nitrogen than other ingredients.
N for nitrogen, P for Phosphorus, K for Potassium.
High Nitrogen content would be N-P-K, N=15, P=0, K=0.
However, at this time of year you want root development before it snows.
Try to find a fertilizer with High number N, but also has some Phosphorus and Potassium - Like N=15, P=5, K=5.
Scott's has terrific fertilizers that will do well in your region.
