I live on the east coast and it's been very mild. It is my first time picking out a Christmas tree and I don't know when to get it, sooner or later.

Any advice on keeping it fresh, hydrated, etc... is appreciated

Thanks

I cannot walk out in my yard.. he jumps up and screams at me, he killed my cat, he eats the birds, and is a general nuisance.. I tried getting him with the hose but that only made him angrier...

For Thanksgiving we had to clear out everything from the livingroom to make room for the long dining table. A couple of my houseplants were among the moved items, and were temporarily stored in the bathroom.
For some reason, when we brought the plants back out, my henna plant had developed these bumps on the stem. My mother said it's scale, but I looked online at pictures of scale and it doesn't look the same. They are kind of dark brown, raised spots in the wood, almost like seeds in appearance.
I've had the plant for about 5 months and this is the first I've seen these things.

Does anyone know what these are, and, if necessary, how to get rid of them?

I planted a few hostas in my garden and the slugs seem to be feasting on them right down to their veins. Is there a humane way to get rid of slugs? I'd hate to use anything that kills them.

My garden plot is well-drained, with slightly chalky soil and in a very sunny position.

I'd like to grow some structural/ornamental plants there.

I like the idea of ornamental grasses - like the black varieties - but not tall growing grasses like Pampas.

What other structural, low-lying grasses could I plant there?

Are there flowers/plants that would go particularly well with the black grass AND thrive in these soil conditions?

(Climate: South East England)

I have a contemporary style backyard with some custom planters in the corner that measure 3 feet tall, with a 2ft x 2ft opening on the top. I am looking for a nice tall tree or plant to put in them that would add shade to my yard and fit the contemporary motif. I'm not sure which tall plants would grow well within such a constrained pot/planter. I was thinking some species of bamboo, but I am clueless when it comes to botany. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I live in Houston, so it has to be something appropriate for a more hot, humid, rainy climate (+/- a few colder days in the winter). I would prefer something low maintenance and hardy.

Thanks in advance!
