I planted a Magnolia soulangia in my garden a few years ago. Every year something eats large holes in the leaves and sometimes leaves them that they are almost just a skeleton. I can see no sign on bugs or caterpillars or snails on the tree so not sure how to treat it. Have any of you had a similar problem and do you have any suggestions what I should do?

Laying a path that is a 25' by 40" with a slight curve. At each end I have to build a step at a right angle, one up , one down. Since I have to cement the pavers at each step, I am not sure when or if I should run the compactor.( I did run it to compact the base.) If I do it before building the steps, there are loose blocks at those areas. If I do it afterwards, how long would I need to wait for cement to set?( Cold weather is fast approaching). I also worry about the compactor chipping the corners of the cement pavers.
