How do you trim the lower branches on a palm tree? Does trimming the lower branches off make it taller and healthier? Is there a special tool that helps cut them close to the tree?

I notice while I'm driving that some of the trees and fence posts are painted with the color purple on them. Like a ring around the tree and just the top of the fence post. I was just wondering what the color signifies?

About 10 days ago, my wife and I went to Lowes and bought some Mum's. We took them home, put soil in a pot, dropped in the flowers and then added some more soil around the plant (the pot we used is kind of bottle necked and it was tough to add extra dirt/soil). It appeard that we were a little low on soil, so I used regular dirt from an empty lot to top off the pots. We put them on our covered porch and watered them and everything was great.

The next day we noticed that some of the flowers were wilting and now, about 10 days later, 1 of the two plants is completely wilted and the other is about 60% wilted.

How do I know if I added enough water or too little? My first impression was that I added to much, as the water spilled out of the hole in the bottom of th plant, but maybe it wasn't enough.

This is really our 1st time planting anything. How often and how much water should be used.
Are these things lost causes or is there still hope.

Any help/tips would be great!

Is this true? I was told this recently but it hasn't seemed to happen to a plant I have. I periodically trim any leaves where the tips have turned brown and someone saw me doing it with metal scissors and said to use plastic scissors. True or False?

I know there is a tool that will completely remove the grass in my yard. I hate Bermuda grass. I want St Augustine grass. This tool removed grass and rolled the grass like you see hay rolled up. What type of tool is this. It is very short grass... I just want it all gone. Please don't answer with a lame two word answer just for points.

I have wild (feral - probably formerly tame) roses growing in the shade caused by tall locust trees. Increasing light is not a choice. Anything I can do to help them bloom?

OK. I mulched my strawberries with a bale of hay I got from my neighbor that he used in a Halloween display. Only afterward did I realize that there were seeds in it. The question now is what to do about it. I don't think that removing the hay immediately will eliminate the problem, as many seeds likely have fallen through the hay to the soil.

I have found Preen to be an effective weed germination inhibitor when used on listed items. My question is will I be able to use this in the spring on the strawberry atch without negatively affecting the plants or the crops?

I am working for community development by providing new seeds for our poor neighborhood for their farms and gardens as their new means of livelihood resources. Something beautiful or something edible we preferred to plant for surely this would be of great help to us to earn a living. Please email me at: danelix880@yahoo.com. Thank you.
