Two of my roses have black spot disease. (i think thats what its called) What is the best organic way to get rid of them? I got chemicals from the store, but the directions were less than clear. They said to use the 7-day plan?? Any other ideas on how to get rid of it?

I had issues with cats and squirrels eating or pooping on all my flowers, so I decided to put landscaping fabric and mulch down around all my flowers. I now want to fertilize for the winter and don't know how to go about it. I bought compost for my newly planted peonies and have tons left over. If I can't fertilize with compost, can I use liquid fertilizer?

I live in zone 5, have roses, clematis, peonies and two butterfly gardens. Thanks for any and all advice!

We have large evergreens in our front yard. They are as tall as our 1.5 story house. I'd like to put Christmas lights on them but don't know the best way of doing that. A ladder seems out of the question because I couldn't lean it on anything. Maybe a long pole with a hook? If so, do they sell such a thing? If I made one what should I make it out of? Here are two pictures of the trees in my latest blog entry: http://www.donnyspi.com/blog/

We moved here 4 years ago and they filled in an old timey well whole about 5 ft wide and it had dirt wall not like the new ones that have cement walls. The people finishing the house filled it in with dirt and packed it. It did fine for about 2 years and for some idiotic reason my husband parked a nonrunning car on top of it, and of course it started sinking. We filled it with dirt again and 8 mos. later sinking again. He brought home a bob cat, filled it with dirt and packed it good and here we are a year later and it's sinking again. I'm really afraid because I have 3 small children and I want to take care of this problem for good before one of them gets hurt or stuck or God only knows what. Any help or experiences you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I bought a hydrangea in the summer with pink flowers (lacecap?).
Slowly the flowers turned green, now it just looks like a foliage plant.

My partner bought me a dozen beautiful roses for my anniversary. They have been sitting in a vase at my desk for 3 days (I used the flower-food sachet that the florist gave me) I am going to take them home with me today though and was wondering if anyone knew how I could keep them alive for as long as possible?

I posted an earlier thread about purchasing a juicer, and growing my own garden in the spring. Many people who responded, said that it would be best to grow organic fruits and veggies. I would love to do this, but I dont think I know how. I assumed that if I planted seeds in my yard, and took care of them properly, than they would grow into organic produce. I assume this because I wont use chemicals or pesticides. Am I right, or is there something special needed to grow organic foods?

I just started gardening from last spring and I planted a lot of beautiful Dahlias. Someone told me that I should dig out the tubers before winter comes. When should it be? Thanks.
