I have to hire someone to do the job, but not sure which is best. The grass is fairly new, don't want to ruin it. Gardening help please?

I have 3 acres of nothing but grass and trees. I strongly suggest you rake them up this year. Mulched leaves will leave acid on your grass which could kill it. Certain tree leaves produce more acid than others. Also, you should put down a winter fertilizer like Scotts Brand. It will give your lawn a good boost in the spring. You don't have to rake the leaves you can use a leave blower. They save lots of time. Rent one.

I never expected so many others to say mulch.... in my area (Ct) I am the only one on my whole block that mulches...been doing it for 20 yrs....I chuckle at all those raking leaves all day and the giant piles in the streets....leaves were meant to go back into the soil.......I mean....take a walk in the forrest in the summer... OMG where did all the leaves go?

If you have a nice lawn it would be best to rake and bags them but, if your lawn is more like a yard of weeds just mulch them. I t really depends on how clean your lawn to be .

Mulching is better. good for the soil. You can rake them too and start a compost heap in an inconspicuous corner of your yard.

You need to get them off the lawn. You can put them in your plant beds like under shrubs if you like. I get rid of them because during the winter we get winds and leaves left will get blown all over the place.

Either way is good. You are right you have to get them off your grass or it will kill. I always blow my leaves in my flower beds to help them winter over.
