I notice while I'm driving that some of the trees and fence posts are painted with the color purple on them. Like a ring around the tree and just the top of the fence post. I was just wondering what the color signifies?

purple paint has been used successfully as a trespass warning for years by several other states. The use of purple paint to mark trees originated with forestry officials and is a popular method in other states such as Missouri and Arkansas. It also is being used in the East Texas forest region near Lufkin.

Because purple paint has worked well with the forest interests, the action by the Texas Legislature was aimed at expanding its use to private agricultural land -- such as the use of the paint by farmers and ranchers.

When I took my hand gun class I learned that this purple paint on a fence post and trees is the same as a NO TRASPASSING sign
and is legal and binding.

I agree with Alex, these marked trees are to be treated in some way, either to be cut down, pruned, or maybe a head count of a particular type of tree
