I got this free sewing machine, that I love, and would like to restore it by hand. But there is alot of damage and wonder if it would need professional restoration. Please take a look at it here: http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g235/crazycattlebarn/?action=view¤t=748f93a6.pbw

and tell me if it can be restored (and where I can get info on how to do it). I am not interested in using it full time for sewing, it would be a nice clean piece in the home. Thanks.

I'm planning on pouring a 7x7 concrete pad for a hot tub. I dont know exactly what type of concrete to buy and do i need to re-enforce the 4" of concrete any further. I'm planning on just digging into the ground 4 inches and then filling it up with the concrete. Dont care how it looks because the hot tub will be surrounded by a deck and you wont see the bottom.

Going to tile the kitchen floor..at the monent it's got really old vinayl tiles, I'm sure these will remove really easily but if not can I lay ceramic tiles over the top....Also the house has suffered some subsidence over the years and the floor's quite slanted so would ceramic tiles be a good idea or should I stick using a floor covering like lino?

I want to insulate the floor of my ground floor flat. The only option I have at the moment is to put some boards on the ceiling in the basement underneath. The problem is that the floor is wooden (it is 100 old building). Does anyone know what materials I should use to get the best effect?

Just wondering if it was cheaper to keep the heater on constantly or have the timer turn the heater on when programmed. Kinda like they say its cheaper to keep a house cool then to let it heat up and then cool it down.

My hot water pipes at places are laying right against the wood ceiling joists in my basement? I used the foam tube insulation and taped them. Can this cause a fire from too much heat?

If the water in my new house's faucets is not hot enough for my liking, is there anything I can do? Do I need to adjust something on the water heater or in the faucet itself? Is this hard to do?

Hi I am going to install a pedestal sink in my bathroom, however, aside from the screws that anchor the sink to the wall, is there any other sealant/caulk/glue I should buy that will ensure that the sink adheres properly to the wall so that it is firm and rigid (so it doesn't wobble while turning on the faucet etc)?

I need to drill a hole through a steel socket for something. The socket is a HUSKY which Im also guessing is steel. Right now Ive been trying to drill with a titanium drill bit but its taking way too long. What can I use to drill it? Would a tap drill bit work better?

I have romex cable running up the corner of my bedroom into the attic in order to supply power to the attic.

I was not able to put the romex behind the walls becasuse there is brick insulation directly behind the sheetrock.

Other thancutting the sheetrock, burying it, and spackeling - is there a way to sasfely cover the romex on top of the wall?

I don't understand why you'd use a nut that transitions upwards in diameter from that of the tube... why not use a normal nut?

...that has a square hole in the middle to fit over the driver head. What is this for? to keep dirt/grease out of the driver mechanism or something?

Also for all you serious mechanics out there :)- what problems am I going to encounter for buying the ultra-cheap set instead of paying 10x more for a nice set?

We have a table top machine and its motor is rated 110V, 60Hz and 750W. Someone said it is possible to use a dimmer switch to achieve different motor speed. Is it ok to connect the machine to a dimmer switch?
Thanks. Ken

I have found the log cabin kit I want, and it's $27,500. It includes the logs, fastners, backer rods, blueprints, and log seal. The cabin and porch total 2,200 square feet. My bf, his dad, and my step-father and a few friends are going to help us build it. Has anyone built their own cabin? Does anyone know if we will have trouble getting a loan to "finish" the cabin? Thanks in advance.
God Bless

The porch was once covered by indoor/outdoor carpet, but it is now just nailed down sheets of new plywood. Can we just paint and seal it? Should we replace it with smaller wood planks? Any suggestion is appreciated!

My GE Artica Profile (PCF25PG) fridge is freaking out. When I opened it this morning the freezer and temperature controls were set to OFF. When I changed the controls to my preferred settings the control panel started beeping at me while the numbers started climbing. I tried unplugging the fridge for a couple of minutes to see if this would help. After waiting about 5 minutes the problem continued. I hope someone else has already dealt with this.
