I have romex cable running up the corner of my bedroom into the attic in order to supply power to the attic.

I was not able to put the romex behind the walls becasuse there is brick insulation directly behind the sheetrock.

Other thancutting the sheetrock, burying it, and spackeling - is there a way to sasfely cover the romex on top of the wall?

The answer you probably didn't want to hear - conduit:

Here's a link that contains this and more info:
http://homerenovations.about.com/od/electrical/a/artromexconduit.htm

Paint it [conduit] to match the wall
or
cover the corner, diagonally,wall to wall - floor to ceiling,with a 3 " piece of sheet-rock.
Once it's taped and compounded, you'll have hidden it quite well.

They make a product called wiremold. It has a metal base and is screwed to the wall, then there is a cover that will fit over it and hide the romex. That would be the best way without digging into the sheetrock. Then you could also run the romex in conduit. That doesn't look that good.

That's how I would do it.

Take a look at the link below, I have used wire casing or plastic raceway to hide romex cable in a corner area. Its easy to install and cut, normally can be found at electrical supply house.

You didn't think the power needs and how to get them to the area needed at did you ? Anyway I'll tell you that there is nothing short of demolition, I can picture what this set up looks like and the trouble to cover the romex.
Best for looks, will be to even out the wire & get some nail sets that are for cable, it my be slim picken's, depends where your casitas is located.
Run cable as flat as you can up thru the whole to the attic. Cover with just enough chalk to even out the corner, no longer a 90degree.
Good luck.

you can buy tubing that has been split to cover it, check your local harware store, theres a few options from plastic tube- or metal wiremold materials. the neatest way would be to cut and bury-a bit of a headache but...you ever think about maybe backing it up through a adjacent wall and feeding it through that wall space, ya theres a bit of cutting and snaking- and patching afterwards- but you will never have to see it again!.

you might get lucky and be able to find molding to cover the wire but be very careful nailing the edges as not to nail through the wire

A product called "WireMold" is what you need.
It is also recognized as code compliant, so as
not to void your fire insurance.
The seller (Home Despot etc). will have a brochure.
