I need to drill a hole through a steel socket for something. The socket is a HUSKY which Im also guessing is steel. Right now Ive been trying to drill with a titanium drill bit but its taking way too long. What can I use to drill it? Would a tap drill bit work better?

The trick with drilling through metal is set the drill speed to the slowest possible speed, and keep the bit lubed for heat dissipation. Ti will drill through steel, but only if you don't burn it up in the process.

A sharp hardened steel drill bit. Try with a small drill bit to use as a pilot hole. You don't want to use high speed, or else you 'll dull out the drill bit and then it won't cut through anything. good luck.

There is not enough information here. How thick is the steel? Can you drill through the beam, and use a nut washer, and threaded hook? What is the hook holding, ounces, pounds, tons of weight? I am only assuming, this is in a home/apartment rather than heavy construction? Do you care if you glue it (Gorilla glue) and will not be able to get the hook off ever? Does it have to be neat? or is it in the garage for a bicycle? Please more info.

you can't drill thru tool steel, not with what you can get your hands on,you can try the tap, if a hole deep enough to start, reason is it's tool steel and cut to cut metal.
