I'm building a flexy rack for some servers. Each server weights about 40-50lbs and want to know if MDF can handle the weight, and if so at what thickness. (1/2" or 3/4")

I installed a small extension to my deck using wood that was not pressure-treated. What do I have to do to weather-proof it? What products are best? How long should I expect it to last? Thanks.

Essentially I want to install a vented range hood. I will need to run the ductwork to out the roof if possible. The wall on which the hood will be mounted is the common wall. The wall is finished. I haven't got the chance to check but I'm sure it is only a stud's width. The duct will have to go up to the second floor up the wall and into the attic and finally out the roof. I don't think this is possible? What would be the best method of running a duct. Do I essentially have to build a box around the duct????

I am installing a free standing propane fireplace where the appliance is inches away from an outside wall. Due to the clearance of the gas piping under the appliance and the height off the floor it would be nice to install the sediment trap on the outside wall of the house. Will this be OK. Is it OK if it were to freeze?

I need to paint my sliding closet wooden doors. They have already been painted white with normal paint but I did it on the grass and crap got stuck to it. They were originally wood stain doors but an ugly color. I covered that though. What I want to do now is spray paint the doors white since that paint doesnt chip off so easily. Am I able to do this without sanding it down or no? Any other tips??

THANKS

I'm stripping some wallpaper... well, to be accurate, it's 2 -3 layers of wallpaper (from before I bought the house). The trouble is, the last layer is proving really difficult to remove

It's a shiny, non-porous surface that won't seperate from it's backing paper. Therefore my usual method of soaking with a sponge and then scraping it off isn't working as well as usual.

At the moment I'm having to soak, scrape around the edges, remove a bit and expose more backing paper, soak that, scrape, removing a bit more etc.

At this rate I'll still be doing it in a months time!

Anyone have any better suggestions? (apart from knocking down the wall - I have toyed with the idea!)

Thanks,
Paul.

Hypothetically, let's say I want to set up a process for melting down junk jewelry and extracting whatever gold might be in it. Let's also keep in mind that I have a somewhat limited budget to work with and limited or no access to exotic reagents (high concentrate acids, heavy metals, etc) and even if I HAD access I don't have the experience to work with such chemicals safely.

There are a host of resources for melting/casting other metals (aluminum, bronze, etc) but almost nothing (that I can find at least) on melting or casting precious metals. The processes are not the same - melting precious metals requires special handling to minimize losses to oxidation, etc. but aside from that notation, I've found very little information on what the differences in the processes are.

Any clues on how to do it or where to look?

TIA

I know it can be done somehow, but I am electriclally challenged. From what I have seen you use little jumper cable-type clamps and split some wires, and then can power even a halogen light. I need specifics (what type of marine battery works best, etc). Help!
