most GFI's are installed in the kitchen and bathroom, they do not have to be on a dedicated circuit. since they will also protect other outlets on that cir cut be careful what you plug in on that cir cut ,so make sure not to plug in the refrigerator on that line.

No, a GFI receptacle can be on a circuit with other receptacles. Remember though, any receptacle downstream from a GFI outlet will be protected by it.

Recent building codes require some appliances to have dedicated receptacles, microwave ovens for example.

As long as you have a conventional three wire system (hot, neutral and ground) you can install a GFI in place of any socket. In fact, in new construction, you could protect multiple outlets from one GFI.

No, it doesn't have to be connected to a dedicated line & an added benefit is that everything down line from it will also be protected. Just make sure you don't overload the circuit or it won't hold.
