HELP!!!!! Please tell me how to close shut off valve in sink?

i turned on the cold at full blast.. to turn it off (according to my mother) just push down on the hot knob..

Look under the sink and follow the water pipes down till you get to the shut off valve. Turn it clockwise.

Turn it to the right.
