I am installing a free standing propane fireplace where the appliance is inches away from an outside wall. Due to the clearance of the gas piping under the appliance and the height off the floor it would be nice to install the sediment trap on the outside wall of the house. Will this be OK. Is it OK if it were to freeze?

The sediment trap is intended to collect solids only. Moisture in the line is not an issue, so freezing temperatures have no bearing on the effectiveness of the trap. The trap should be located as close as possible to the appliance gas control. The mechanical authority having jurisdiction is who has the ultimate authority.

I think the sediment trap is intended to catch solids that might be in the line between the propane tank and the fireplace. It should be just fine outside.

Commercial propane specifications require it to be essentially free of any moisture: therefore there should not be any freezing of the trap.

So you can feel better, I suggest you talk to the local propane supplier and confirm the moisture content of the propane.
