I think the heat gun with a scraper is the only way to go, keep thinking how good the floor will look when youre done

The unfortunate answer is there is not going to be a quick fix for this project.. you can rent commercial floor scrapers (they have a blade on the front that vibrates back and forth as well as heating up) but they are used for concrete floors with carpet glued down on it. But with wood floors and pine ones at that I would be afraid of digging into the wood. My best advice... have a scraping party get a bunch of friends rent a few heat guns and go to town. Once most of the tar is up you can rent a floor sander (used in refinishing hardwood floors) start with 40 grit and sand the paint will come up. Good luck

The heat gun is a good way but it takes forever. You can rent belt sanders from some hardware shops and if the tar is hard you can sand it as well as sand the pine down so you can refinish it with stain and polyurethane. Good luck!

I'm not sure if this is any help but try it anyway.when delivering tar we used to use olive oil to get rid of it off hands and clothes.good luck, hope it works.
