The rest of the house has been painted this very light pale yellow. When you walk in the front door there is a double door width opening to our living room on the right. Just beyond it is a double door width opening to our dining room. So you can see it from the living room. Our dining room has a white chair rail & the bottom half of it is that pale yellow color throught the rest of the house. I'd like to eventually get walnut/white furniture for the dining area.
We have a modern/contemporoary style & a red sectional in our living room. I was thinking of painting the dining room top half a dark red (not bright, I guess with brown mixed in) & the bottom half white w/ a white chair rail. I was concerned of having too much red tones in these areas. Would it make us feel tense or angry? Or would it flow nicely. I also considered a sage green or orange? It's just such a scary decision for me since we don't have a lot of $ to redo it if ugly. Also have khaki carpet in there.

Its been almost 2 years since I joyfully gave up my small bedroom to my son in return for the master bedroom. I FINALLY got a bed after two years of sleeping on the living room couch and now I'm ready to beautify my newly painted and newly furnished room.
MY QUESIONS IS....
I have all kinds of magnets and magnetic things I want to use somewhere in my room but I have no idea how to incorporate a piece of metal generous enough so that my awsome magnets are noticable...
What can I put in my Bright Green room thats metal but not trashy looking???

I need to practice dancing in a room upstairs but a hamster couldn't tiptoe across the floor without insane creakage.

I guess the floorboards need to be replaced? Or just fixed.. ?
Should I get carpet or some kind of wooden flooring?
I was considering wood because I need to be able to move very freely but I hate laminate flooring. I don't know if it would be noisier than bouncing on carpet? I think regular wood flooring would be too expensive but let me know if you think that is a good option.

Keep in mind this is purely about noise and movement level, not looks.

The cabinet is 69 inches from the floor. But it is only 12 inches deep! The microwave I bought is 15 inches deep. Will this matter? And will I have enough clearance from the top of the stove? Very concerned, the installers will be here soon. Microwave came with a package deal with all new stainless steel appliances. Very small kitchen and could use the extra space that the over the stove microwave will give me the extra room.

Hi all, first time using this question thing,
Ive recently bought a house and the wallpaper in the living roof is really bad, im ripping it off and the walls poor behind, my mate has agreed to plaster it, hes been plastering for about 10 years, how will i know how much plaster to buy for him? its about 15ft x 10ft and about 8ft high walls, theres no major holes or anything, it just needs smoothing over so i can get it looking fresh with abit paint. Also... big question is, he says he will do it as a favour but i want to give him some money, whats the going rate for this sort of thing?

Our kitchen cabinet is going to be painted (at last). But we can't decide what color to paint it with. Actually the color of the kitchen tiles is maroon (kind of dark maroon). So what color goes well with that?

We really want it to come out well. We can't afford to change it if we didn't like it. And the house would most probably be "passed on" so ^^, you get what i mean.

Please and thank you!

P.S: The cabinet is made out of wood with not much design on it. And the kitchen is simple yet elegant (as our neighbors who see it comment on it.)

Ok. We just bought a new house that was "freshly painted." It looked great prior to purchasing the house, but now that it is ours and after closer inspection, we can see that a second layer of paint should have been applied in certain areas. It's a white, flat paint and when we try to rub out scuff marks, some of the paint comes off. I now know this is probably cheap paint but we really don't want to repaint the entire house if it is not necessary. Also, a friend came over today, and her little girl spilled red kool-aid down one of the walls. The red tint is gone, but there is large drip stains going down the side of the wall. Rubbing it only takes the paint off. If we repaint this area, it would look bad to just do in this area, right? I hope I am but at this point we really don't know of any other ideas. We REALLY don't want to repaint the house yet because there are other projects we would like to do, but this problem is going to bug me until something is done! Suggestions?

I'm renting an apartment in a few weeks and would like to know your opinion on whether I can hang a heavy pot rack in the kitchen. It will require molly bolts to hold the pot rack secure. I know that this would not be a typical wall hanging, but would it be OK if I was sure to smooth over the holes and paint when I move? The same question goes for Roman Shades in the windows. Now there are cruddy Venetian blinds, and I would like to replace them with Roman Shades that have hardware inside the window frame. I would leave the neutral (tan/beige) shades when I left, and also save the crummy Venetian blinds, so actually they would be getting a good deal on the blinds. Should I ask my landlord first? I'm afraid he'll say no the to potrack, and I really want to hang it. Does anyone really know what I can do and can't do in a rented apartment as far as hanging things goes? I'd sure appreciate your input on this. Warm regards.
