I'm going to be decorating the dining room and kitchen this weekend, and can't decide what colour scheme would go best.

Would 2 different colours in the same room look odd, or should I stick to just one colour?

In Hong Kong, if you want to hire a contractor to renovate your property, you have got to draw up a mutual agreement to protect both interests. From what I have seen in the reality show; The Apprentice (can't remember which season) there was one part where Donald Trump assigned the groups an empty hse each and had them hired a contractor... but the contractor didn't deliver as promised. Is drawing up such mutual agreement a feasible idea? because from what I observe, especially in my country (M'sia) ppl hire contractor based on trust, that means I trust you to carry the work in utmost good faith, and when the job is done, I will pay you. As happened to my cousin when she bought a new hse years ago, the contractor actually threatened her for more money, otherwise he would do something nasty to her hse. Not jz that, the work completed wasn't up to std and she had to hire another contractor to carry on the work. So i wonder has anybody experience such thing b4, and how do u solve that?

I have a large wall in a loft where it continues on the first and second floor and part is a really tall wall. I'd like to go ahead and paint the accessible parts and then hire a professional to paint the tall part of the ceiling.

If I paint my sections and they dry, will there be a noticeable seam or color difference when the contractor paints the taller area that ajoins my sections? I'm assuing for this that it would all come from a single large batch of paint.

I've just moved into a new one bedroom apartment that's 790sq ft. I'm not very good at decorating, but I want my place to look nice. The carpet, cabinets, and walls are white/neutral and all the fixtures are brushed nickel. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

I don't want to use a transition piece. I would like for the transition to be straight from tile to carpet. Know of any techniques for this? I've seen in people's houses that it looks like the carpet is actually tucked underneath the tile. How is this done? especially underneath the grout? I just don't understand I guess.
Also, I am using a 1/4" cement backerboard for the floor tile.

I wish I would have thought of this before installing the tub so I could just lay the tile under the tub. But it's too late. So what do I do? How can I cover the seam between tub and tile so that water doesn't get to the subfloor? I would just use caulk as with an iron tub but this plastic tub gives with enough pressure and the caulk would just eventually crack. Any suggestions? I've never layed tile before so please speak in layman's terms. Thanks.

There was actually only a tub there and no shower, so the walls are all plaster. I know that before I tile I need a different backerboard, meaning the plaster goes at least to a point. Any hints, tips, directions, and suggestions on how to do the job?

Cabinets have just been enameled vanilla white, appliances are white, sink is white, floor is cork. (Kind of a reddish oak color.) What color should my countertops be? Vanilla white to match the cabinets? Or should they be darker to match the floors??

MY QUESTION...what color counters (wilsonart formica) would you install? (This is a debate I am having with a friend. We are not agreeing.) AND PLEASE DO NOT SUGGEST ANOTHER MATERIAL BESIDES FORMICA - NOT A HUGE REMODEL BUT THE FIXING OF A FIXER-UPPER. FORMICA ONLY!!

my husband and i just got a equity loan on the house i do not understand how this works part of me is saying that we are getting screwed....
we were approved for 60,000 they only gave us 30,000 upfront and told us that we had to wait 45 days after the windows were put in to get the rest, now when we got the 1st 30,000 we have to go and get estimates and there laywer wrote us out checks we did not get any of the $$ in hand, now we are waiting for the other 30,000 which it has passed 45 days is there anything i can do i know that as they hold our money they are making interest off it and i think it is going to be the same was as the last 30,000 does anyone have any advice on what i should do and is it just me or does this not sound right, like i said we did not have any money in hand we had to show estimates and there lawyers printed out the checks and after we paid for the windows ect we had to bring in the final bill to prove that we paid them.....

I did my kitchen remodel plans and order with Home Depot last fall. I stupidly paid for the whole thing up front, including install. The cabnets are sitting in the garage, but I am now dating a carpenter who wants to install them for me. I just want HD to give me the install portion back. I've paid for all there design services and cabnets and they've made interest on the money since Nov. Do I have the right to ask for just the install portion back ?
