I'm going to be decorating the dining room and kitchen this weekend, and can't decide what colour scheme would go best.

Would 2 different colours in the same room look odd, or should I stick to just one colour?

Pick a favourite colour and use 2 shades of it, perhaps a light shade if the room is north facing and is quite dark. Also a light shade if you want the room to look bigger.

I wouldn't start until I'd decided. Get some colour charts from a DIY store and see what you like.

It's best to usually stick with one colour, however, if you have a fireplace in the room then you can paint that part of the wall another colour- an accent wall as it's put. You can paint the accent wall a strong colour and the other walls can be painted white.

Also, if you have dark furniture it's best to paint the rooms a lighter colour otherwise the room will look too dingy. Blues can always make a room feel a bit cold, so it's best to paint the rooms neutral colours or uplifting colours.

Two different colors are fine as long as they mix well. Make sure the colors flow with the rest of the rooms they connect to. For example if your dining room is connected to the living room you don't want them to clash. I like bright cheerful kitchens. My favorite for kitchens are yellow and blue color schemes. It is so bright and clean looking. For the dining room I would then go with a pale blue or a very light yellow. I would choose the blue. For some reason I don't like yellow in other rooms.

No, two different colours look great. I have a lovely lime green, yellow and white tiles put on the walls with white doors in the kitchen. I would love to have red and ceam, or red and white. What I do as I go around places is to look at all the different combinations they use. I have magnolia walls in my dining area with a burgundy carpet and curtains. I love a very pale green walls with burgundy accesseries. That is my choice, I'm sure it will look lovely whatever colours you choose.

suggest you don't decorate this weekend and instead go and look at some colour schemes either in catelogues or showrooms before you make a start otherwise you will be doing it again in a few weeks.

stick to nice light colours, they always look better and cleaner I think. Two colours would look Good as long as they compliment each other. Try to get colour charts and put colours together.

I like using two colors.
They are two different rooms, or areas.
I pick colors I like, and don't clash with each other.

Sometimes I'll get a color idea from something I have.
I had the paint store once mix paint to match the color
of a silk flower I had.
After the walls were painted, my silk flower helped me
pick out other colors of items in the stores to go with it.
It worked out really good, easy, and fun.
Me, and my flower. ;-)

I would go for neutral colours and with harmony with the rest of your house colour. And you would have to be very careful if you want to use two colours, and am sure if you get it right it would look fab!

Good luck!

browse through better homes and gardens magazines. Or try paint company websites, they usually have the virtual room decorating thingy.
