Old house, JUST enameled the cabinets vanilla white so NOT replacing cabinets, all new white appliances, new white sink, cork floors (the loors are the color of a reddish oak)

MY QUESTION...what color counters (wilsonart formica) would you install? (This is a debate I am having with a friend. We are not agreeing.) AND PLEASE DO NOT SUGGEST ANOTHER MATERIAL BESIDES FORMICA - NOT A HUGE REMODEL BUT THE FIXING OF A FIXER-UPPER. FORMICA ONLY!!

PLEASE READ ACTUAL QUESTION - Not asking about installation of formica or how to install it, etc. Asking WHAT COLOR FORMICA would you put in there, knowing what the rest of the room looks like.

last winter we redid our kitchen. Painted the cabinets white, new hardware, new floor, sink, faucet, etc.
We went to home depot and picked out a great coutertop...it's formica. Called Oxidized Metal. Has all kinds of colors in it. It will go with anything and you don't get tired of it.
My kitchen walls are yellow.
Good luck
Home Depot and Lowes have formica samples/ little chips on a rack. Pick some out, take home and see which looks best. Then you know what you want!!!! Even if you want a less expensive counter top, you can match it to the sample.

You have enough white in the room already so don't go with white. Formica is a brand name of the product called laminated plastic. I'd go with some color that will compliment the cork floor and white everything else. Plus, I wouldn't use a solid color either. There are many new laminates that have a speckled look with many colors incorporated in the pattern but with a predominate color. There are many that look like granite too. Good luck.

You can get formed counter top that has Formica attached. It comes in various colors and faux wood grains.

If you re-Formica an existing top, you need to really know what you are doing. The stuff is brittle and can break easily.

The formed counter top costs around $5 a linear foot and you can install it yourself.

If you do not want to replace the counter top, just cover it, you can use tile. REALLY it isn't all that expensive, and with a rented saw, you can easily do it yourself. And, AND it really makes the kitchen pop.

Good Luck

White -- but when you decide on your accent color - go to the Auto parts star - get some of the stripes (dont know what they are called) they sell to put on cars. It makes a great accent if you put it along the edge of your counter top. I have done this and it looks good. When you first put ti on -dont press on it hard UNTIL you see if you like it
