We are having a basement cellar converted into a lounge. We understood that we would just need it tanked but now our builder says we need to install a delta system with a floor pump. Its coming out at about £4000 more expensive. Does this sound right? He seems to be a nice guy but we know nothing about it and before we pay up I want to be sure he isn't taking us for a ride!

I'm looking for floor sized candle sticks (not the kind that hold mulitple candles and are made of thin metal). They need to be anywhere from 4 foot to 6 foot tall.

I got an estimate from a painter and this "kilzing" stuff is included as a service. I have no idea what this means.

I am buying a balloon frame three story house. One thing I don't like are the relatively low, 7.5-8 foot ceilings, which are covered with sheet rock. (i think.) Can I remove the sheet rock and expose the beams? Is this commonly done? I don't know much about construction. Any thoughts or examples I can see? Thanks!

I am quite sick of the typical sofa which takes up a lot of my living room space. But I want to create a place where one can rest and still looks good for guests who come to my house.

I have a brick fireplace and a stove archway that would be beautiful if it was not covered with white paint. Sandblasting, I was told, would damage the brick (is this correct?) and Jasco/ wire brush scrubbing is unbearably labor intensive. Any suggestions that would make this project more efficient would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

They came from old houses that were being demolished. Is there a market for these items? How would I find buyers and an estimate of how much they are worth?

The stairs have been heavily varnished and the stain has penetrated deep. The size of the steps and the proximity of the risers and the side molding make it difficult to use a power tool to sand the whole surface of the stair tread.
