built in 1920, not sure the last time it was remodeled, but it has to have a do over, not sure with money issues if i should leave and design around or try to pull it out, want the house to have a time period feel, just not sure what sunken tub feels like, but Roman and that is not what i am going for, thanks for the help

IS THE FLOOR CONCRETE? OR WOOD? THAT 1920 STYLE IS COMING BACK . IF REAL CASE IRON TUB, U CAN CONTACT A CONTRACTOR THAT RECONDITIONS THESE TYPE OF TUBS.

in keeping with the 1920s you might want to go for a claw foot tub--they make some great reproductions these days that are a lot easier to maintain than the original old iron ones--plus they have way better faucet and shower options. is the existing tub completely submerged below floor, or is it a little above? if its totally sub--then it shouldnt be hard to fill. if not then you might have to hire a pro to get rid of it--also depends on the lay-out of the plumbing. depending on the size of the room, one option might be to fill in the tub with a variety of potted plants.if the room is small tho, youll have to either remove the sunken tub or effectively cover it in so you have a level floor. i personally love the sunken tub myself. and i dont think it neccessarily has to have a "roman" feel. it could also have an art-deco feel which is very 1920s. maybe you could just retile it, and add some new faucetts, new light fixtures, paint etc. could give the room a whole different feel even without removing/redoing the tub
