My cat loooves to scratch at the carpet at the door of my apartment. She has completely torn up the carpet at the corner of the door. It's like down to the wood. The carpet type is the berber stuff, I don't know. But I was wondering how much would that cost to repair? Do I have to pay to just get that spot repaired or do I have to pay for the whole place to be re-carpeted in the apartment??

Okay, I have this landlord that seems to think he doesn't really have to fix anything around the building unless its something like a furnace or hot water tank. Anyway, everything is falling apart in my apartment, the bathroom floor is soggy like it sinks in when you step on it, and its about 50% of the floor thats like that. You can hear water dripping in the walls, and a few other problems. I've been telling him about this for like a year, mind you the problem wasn't nearly as bad when I FIRST told him. But, he rarely cleans the hall ways or anything, and its gross. And he just doesn't handle anything the way a landlord should, ( SORRY FOR MAKING THIS SO LONG) What can I do to get some help?

We are living in a brand new home with three bedrooms in the basement.

It is FREEZING down there

Each room has one vent -- including the large family room area. All the vents are open.

I realize that basements always run cooler and yes, its winter and thats what happens, but the cold seems too extreme.

Any helpful suggestions as to why its so cold and how we can improve the warmth circulation.

Thanks much!

Looking to heat my garage for a party for new years. Three of the walls are insulated, but the garage door and the roof is not. Outside temps are around 10 degree F. Any advice on how I can heat the garage? I just need it heated for the night.

I want to build a moongate for my Japanese garden. The gate is basically a very large circle, tall enough to walk through and not bump your head. I can build the base with rock or concrete but the other 90% of the circle has to come from bending the wood. Any help would be appreciated.

banister. the height from the steps to the ceiling is about 70 inches from each step...the width is about 36 inches. The furniture set is heavy and today while trying to move it with two people we were unsuccessful. I'm not sure if it was due to the weight or whether this would be possible at all. I already consider piano movers but my windows are only 63 inches in height. Are there any suggestions on how to handle this problem. Please I want my home together for the holidays. There doesn't seem to be any method of breaking it down. Although the piece has screws in it... I unscrew and it is not coming apart. This is a Collezione peice for those who are familiar with this line of furniture. Are there any other alternatives? Please don't say buy new furniture... I invested a lot in this piece.

I've heard that it's bad to close off vents for extended periods of time ... that an HVAC system is meant to handle the SQ footage that it was installed for and that shutting off vents can cause harm to the system. Is this true? I may be moving into a large house that has way more rooms than I will use and want to conserve power by shutting off the vents and closing the doors to rooms I will not use. What say you HVAC experts?

I moved my bed away from the wall but I still feel a draft and I want to stop it so I'm not always frozen or so the heat can stay in my room. Help please

I am having company for the holidays and one house guest is an older lady. I wanted to place a shower mat in the bottom of the tub to make sure she won't slip but the one I bought from the store won't stick to my tub. It has a textured bottom and I was wondering what kind of shower mat I needed to by so she won't hurt herself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have what look like pipes for a toilet and shower in my basement floor. They stick up about 4 or 5 inches. They are currently filled with cement.

Was this standard practice in '69?

How far would the cement be down in the pipe?

Should I be able to get under the cement if I cut off at the floor level to install a toilet flange?

Is it possible to buy a empty warehouse, with a large amount of open square footage, in or around the Los Angeles area for cheap?
One that hasn't been already professionally redesigned (which would increase the $). What additional costs would be of concern, (heating, etc.)?

List everything (item, cleanser, ect) that you normally use to clean the outside and inside of your fridge.

I'm just curious to see if anyone does it the same as I do. :-)
