You will have to turn off the water to the toilet and replace the toilet itself. Unfortunately there isn't any kind of glue that can repair fractured porcelain that is subject to constant contact with water. You will have to replace it.

Behind the toilet on the wall or floor is a shutoff valve. Turn it clockwise till the water stops filling the tank. Flush the lever until the tank empties. Go buy a new toilet. You can temporarily use the tiolet by filling up the tank(not the bowl) with a bucket of water -1 1/2 gallons about. (You can also add some water to the bowl if you want..)Use your tub/shower to fill the bucket. On a newer toilet you only need a gallon and a half of water each time. If its yellow, let it mellow. If it Brown...flush it down.

I don't understand how a crack in this location could affect a septic system. A toilet tank crack should do no more than get the floor wet. I'll admit, I'm a bit confused. Plumber's epoxy putty will seal the crack but it sounds like its time for a new biffy.

Get a replacement and while you are at it, get the unit which has a short flush, uses much less water. If you cannot afford a new one, go to a building salvage yard where they have saved units from demolished houses.

Go get a new one.. don't forget a new wax ring. its not that hard to do. Here is a link for Lowes and it is pretty accurate on how to replace it. I hope that helps.. Just remember.. you CAN do it. Don't pay someone alot of money to do something that you can do yourself... Fix it and take yourself out to celebrate.
