I've had my oven about 10 years and it seems to be taking a long time to heat up lately. I was just wondering on average how long ovens last.

That is a long life for an oven. Even more so if you use it a lot....

Wife and I purchased our Tappan Double (Over and Under) Oven Gas Range in 1973 from a Goodyear Store I used to manage. It still uses a standing pilot instead of the new glo igniters. It still works fine. It's been moved twice. We also bought a trash compactor at the same time, it lasted about 3 years and took a dump.
About 5 years ago I had to replace the oven temp. control valve. Other than that, no problems with the range.

The ugly oven in my house is 23 years old and still works just fine. It is being replaced because it is butt ugly. My old house had the original oven from 1947 and it just needed a new thermostat.

Ovens are not like cars, very few moving parts to wear out.

Compare it with someone who has a newer one, check the time it takes to say............ preheat to 450F. If yours is much slower I'd look at buying a new lower heating element. My parents have the same oven that came in their house back in 1968 and it's not an expensive brand. They have replaced some of the elements, but it still works great.

Ovens generally last much longer than 10 years. I would have it checked by a professional, but if you want to take a shot at fixing it yourself, I would be willing to bet that it just needs new heating elements. Generally, they will cost you about $20.00 each to replace, and if you are handy at all, they are very easy to replace.

10 is pretty good. If you acclimate yourself to the decrease in its ability to heat, you can use it for another few years.

But a new oven sure is nice!!

is it gas or electric....if electric it might just be a new heating element is needed. Not unusual for ovens to last 20 years.

My mom has one that is over 40 yrs old and works fine. You just have to replace the elements once every 10 yrs or so, but hey aren't expensive
