if you know the type of bulb it take you can go to a store and check out the information on the package of a similar bulb. if not and you really need to know, the only other option is to get a light meter

The lumen output of the lamp is listed on the package.
Most fixtures have what is called a Coefficient of Utilization,
(C.U.), which gives their efficiency in a given
environment.
This number generally runs from .5 to .25 and indicates
the amount of the lamp output the fixture will deliver
to the space in question on an average.
Thus endeth the nickel course in lighting design.

The bulb produces the lumens.

Usually the package the bulb comes in will have them listed on it.

lumen's are rated on the light bulb,
or candle power, same thing
