I just retiled my bathroom floor and the flange sits well below the new tiles.

Will flange extensions, also known as spacers, work?

Are they stackable?

Self sealing?

Are they mounted below or on top of the flange?

Thanks!

What is the best way to make the following setup safer from break-in. I realize that if someone wants to get in, they will, but how could I deter them more with the following setup:

Here are pics:

It looks pretty simple to me...break the glass pane, reach in and unlock the door. Is there some way that's not totally unappealing to the eye to make it harder to get the door open? Would it be possible to put safety glass in the panes closest to the lock that would match the rest of the panes?

Any ideas? I guess when it comes down to it, it would be just as easy for someone to just break one of the huge enclosed windows and climb in. I'm buying this house and don't feel real safe. Maybe a 12 gauge and an alarm system are my best bet?

My Garage door will open using the clicker and wall mount but will not close with the clicker, it activates, starts to shut then comes back to the open position again. The only way to close it is to hold the button on the wall until the door is shut. I pulled the covers off on each end thinkin it was a lose wire or something but everything seems in order. Any ideas?

I just killed the second spider that I've never seen before (I've seen two of them this past week, killing both, one inside the other outside). I'm in the midwest (Chicagoland) and the spider, with legs outstretched was between 1/2 inch to and inch in diameter. I have never seen such a huge spider in the open before and was wondering if anyone had an idea of what type of spider this may be. It was brown but that's all I can remember from the time of freaking out until I quickly grabbed my shoe and killed it.

I'm selling my home and doing repairs, and the globe for an older ceiling fan was taken down and got broken.

I thought I'd run down to Lowe's and get a new one, only to find out they don't sell just the large single globes anymore.
I couldn't find one in town, and was told you have to buy the whole lighting kit, so I did.

The metal rod coming down from the ceiling fan that goes thru the hole in the globe was too short to come thru the other side. Seems these new globes are deeper than the older ones.

A guy there said to buy an adaptor, get a variety pack of extension rods (just like on the fan) and washers.

Yippee....I thought. The globe went on, the metal rod was now long enough to come thru the globe to then go thru the globe decorative metal part, and enouch left to screw the knob on. The globe looked a tad crooked, but felt secure.

We turned the fan on and heard a crack. Then another. Two cracks in the globe from the center out, 2-3 inches each.
What went wrong?
