Are rafters ment to be over the studs or does this not really matter. what happens in the the real world?

Preferablly, they should be lined up over the studs, but if
the walls have a double top plate, they don't have to be.
For instance ,some buildings (garages) are built with 2x4
exterior walls 16" O.C, and a standard 24" O.C truss or rafter layout, would only match the studs every 4 ft.
If you want the most strength , then line them up.

Depends on which studs you are asking about, and what type of rafters.

An engineered truss system will actually span to the outside walls....meaning that none of the interior walls are load bearing, and are not holding up the trusses. So the exterior wall studs are supporting the truss, but not the interior wall studs. It doesnt matter where the interior walls are located.

In a doublewide manufactured home, the trusses are supported by the exterior walls, and the marriage wall (where the two halves of the home come together). None of the other walls are load bearing.
