If I paint the crown molding and have oak baseboard, should the crown molding match the wall or ceiling?

With all due respect to you, and at least the first two answers...YIKES!!!

What you're talking about is TOTALLY a personal preference.

You've already stated what you DON'T want, and BTW; if the cove base is Natural Oak and you PAINT IT you should be ashamed.

Without knowing at all what your wall color is, or TRIM COLORS around doors and windows; Crown molding is very often painted in the same color as the ceiling; but in a Satin or semi gloss.

Certainly it might help to know if you even have window molding; and/or what colors your door/window molding is, if in fact there are any doors in the room.

Crown molding calls attention to istelf strictly by virtue of the fact that it exists. It need not; should not be dressed with bells and whistles.

I guess too I have to wonder why the Oak molding? Hardwood floors perhaps?

I've applied multiple thousands of gallons of paint in all my years and I'm still amazed at some choices people make; HOWEVER; the customer is always "right" even when they aren't.

It is ok to paint it, but it needs to be painted the color of the door or another piece of trim in the room. You should also paint the oak baseboard the color of the trim.

I prefer the wall and trim paint from Lowes.

Yes, you can. Clean them first and check to see if you need a primer.
