Hi, I need to clean our wooden deck.. the problem is I need a home solution since our cats are hanging around beneath the deck all the time and bleach can be dangerous for them. I would also like to avoid a power washer.

We had an electrician come to our house and mention that using compact fluorescent bulbs could damage a home's electrical system. I doubt it, but I wanted to find out if anybody has some evidence proving that they do cause damage?

Hello, I have a window in my room which is a standard single-hung window that slides up to open. The problem is that the window is set in a corner of my room and is about waist level high. I have my chest of drawers in front of the window and that is the only window in my room so it gets horribly stuffy and hot, almost like a sauna, even during the winter! If I could flip the window upside-down so it slid open from Top to Bottom then the opening would be above my chest of drawers. Can a person install a winow upside-down? Or do they sell windows that slide open downwards? Thank you.

Have an old house with ceramic tile on floor of main living room. Just bought house few mths ago and just now noticed some cracks in floor. What's concerning me is that it seems to run through center of room ie. its all on the same line of tiles. Not every tile in the center line is cracked although the crack does run through a few tiles at points whereas in other areas only one single tile is cracked. Anything to worry about? Appreciate everyones input.

I have a home intercom sistem that was installed about 19 years ago and has since stopped working... sort of. The music works on all the speakers, except for the one on our patio. My main problem is that the actual intercom doesn't work, i.e. we can't communicate between rooms. Someone told us it may be one of the doorbells, but I took the front door bell apart and reconnected the wires to no avail. The back doorbell is disconnected due to someone trying to hammer it. I am a good Do-It-Yourselfer and it was I who fixed the music portion.

Does anybody know what I can do to fix the doorbell/intercom?

We got a used fridge and when we cleand it my hubby used a water hose to wash the exterior and some of the interior. Now we plugged it in about 3 hours now and it doesn't seem to be cooling any. What are some suggestions. The owners said it works great. and you can hear the motor or whatever soon as you cut it on. Is there a certain way i should do anything?

I have been growing tomato plants indoors for 3 years now (new plant every year). I noticed this year that the top of the plant started to die back as usual, however i noticed alot of new growth starting at the bottom of the plant. I live in PA so days get pretty short over the winter. How long do you guys think this plant will live if i keep it well maintained? THANKS

So, when we bought our house, it was seeded and we has some nice bermuda in the backyard. Then we got dogs....*sigh*... long story short our yard went completely bare. We started keeping the dogs indoors all day, we tried reseeding, sod, just about everything and had given up short of calling a landscaper. Then, after a few months we noticed there was something green growing in the backyard. It was crabgrass. Now I know it's not something beautiful to look at and it won't make a golf course yard, but if it will grow there....it has to be better than nothing right?

As a special note, we live in the south, it's 100+ degrees here right now, and our front yard is fine...no weeds, nice bermuda growing there without problem. I'll admit that my husband and I both are far from yard experts. Is having a backyard yard of crabgrass that bad?

I have to prime my mower before I start it, it starts but it stops after about 5 seconds. Is it a gas problem? It has fresh gas, and I have been using it all summer. The spark plug is good, I have only had the mower for a yaer.

I can't find schooner glasses in any of the high street chain stores or even the charity shops, and ebay is a dead loss for them too. They are small delicate port/sherry/shot glasses, illustrated here:

They seem to have gone out of fashion to the point where you can't find them at all. Does anyone know where I can buy some inexpensive ones? I don't want to have to steal them from pubs.

I've looked at several sheets at home depot and don't know what to use. i plan on using some 2 x 4's to build the support legs. i of course know to have most of the supports in the area where the monitros will be sitting.
