I have to prime my mower before I start it, it starts but it stops after about 5 seconds. Is it a gas problem? It has fresh gas, and I have been using it all summer. The spark plug is good, I have only had the mower for a yaer.

Does it restart after it quits? Id say the carb needs cleaning - must be removed and taken apart and cleaned thouroughly.
If youve ever noticed- gas tanks at the station are - in the ground. Water, dirt, dust and debris can get in there - so straight from the pump , its dirty. Then if the gas can has some dirt in it ( thats possible too) - it goes straight into the gas tank of the mower and into the carb. It should run after cleaning the carb.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Most likely the carburetor will need cleaning. Make sure the gas tank is clean too. Sometimes our fuel containers aren't clean and we contaminate the gas. Check you gas can too.

Check the oil. You may need to change the oil as well. I would say off hand there is something wrong with the oil but if that does not work then talk to the place you bought it.
