I have a home intercom sistem that was installed about 19 years ago and has since stopped working... sort of. The music works on all the speakers, except for the one on our patio. My main problem is that the actual intercom doesn't work, i.e. we can't communicate between rooms. Someone told us it may be one of the doorbells, but I took the front door bell apart and reconnected the wires to no avail. The back doorbell is disconnected due to someone trying to hammer it. I am a good Do-It-Yourselfer and it was I who fixed the music portion.

Does anybody know what I can do to fix the doorbell/intercom?

Yes, the music stops when you press the "talk" button.

I have alot of electrical background but without a schematic there would be no way to assist you. Once you find out how the wires are connected you can ring out the individual wires to ensure that there are no wiring problems. Then it will be a matter of the switches and controls. Most of the present day intercoms have a fair amount of electronics in them. Sometime reseating the electronic boards help. But if you can prove you field wiring and switches etc. are OK then it would be your main electronics board.

Pull the wire off the speaker on the patio, trace it back to the source and disconnect it from the source. Test the wire by tying one end together, put a meter on the other end and see if continuity exists. If the wire is good, the problem may then lie in the speaker.

As far as the intercom, if the music works, then the problem should lie in the communication button from the main control panel, in other words, if music is being received then you have continuity on the wiring, therefore, limiting your problem to the main control panel.
It may need to be replaced, or it could be something as simple as a resistor being burnt up in the control panel for the intercom system specifically.
Hope that helps a little.
