We own a home built in 1912. All the plumbing is outdated galvanized steel. We want to replace all of the pipes. Some say copper, some say plastic. Which is better (easier to install, cheaper, etc)?

Water is getting into my basement somehow and it's hard to tell from where. My carpeting in there is wet, and there is paneling on the walls, so it's hard to tell if it's coming through the walls. Although, the paneling isn't wapring or anything, so I think it's coming up. Could it be the grading on the side of the house? I'm about 99% sure it's slowly leaking is the snow was melting, and now progressively getting worse. Ideas, help, please?

I live in Illinois, zone 5, I think. I have never gardened before, but my naked house needs some plants or something! Could you please suggest hardy plants that grow well in this area, and require a minimum of care? If I later discover a knack for gardening, I'll commit more time and money to it. But I want to keep things as simple as possible for now.

I live in Tennessee and I was putting out pre-emergent the other day and I noticed quite a few thick bladed grasses. Maybe crabgrass has already come up?

What good will it do to still put out pre-emergent ? We are told by Scotts that we can safely put down pre-emergent all the way to April 1.

Here is a couple of pictures I took below:

For the last couple weeks we have had a problem with our well for our house. The water will come back with perfect pressure for about 5 gallons and then it will shut off again?? We replaced the pressure valve, but the pump isn't old enough to require getting a new one. Anyone have any ideas??????

I already have wall colors picked out. What I'm looking for is posters and furniture, mainly. Any ideas? They're much appreciated!!!! And anything other than posters/furniture I might have left out that could accent the room the way that I want is also worth mentioning. Thank you to all who contribute!

What are the benefits of installing tile in kitchen and bathroom or would linoleum be better? Also, how hard is it to install tile floors. I've had friends who've had no experience and they did it and did a good job. I am just a bit skeptical of doing it myself but just wondered if there are videos out there that shows you how to do it.

Every spring I go throught the same ordeal, finding someone who has a hobbyist level of gardening knowledge and wants to work about twenty hours a week for $12 to 15 an hour. Usually I manage to get someone thru the summer months, but they start getting flakey on me around fall and I usually end up having to find a landscaping firm to get ready for Winter. Its a good job with flexible hours and a decent wage. I even guarantee 10 hours a week thru winter! Doesn't anyone want to work these days?

My cousin is getting married in September and wants to buy some glass hurricane lamps for the tables (the type you put candles/sand into). Any ideas where I can get about a dozen, obviously not too expensive? Went to Ikea this morning and they did not have any?
