When I wake up in the morning the temperature in the house may show 69 degrees on the thermostat. I increase the thermostat to 74 degrees to get some heat. It never comes on. I switch the fan from auto to on and then back and it may come on. I take the door off the furnace, put it back, I hear a click, then it kicks in. The colder it gets the longer it takes to come on, sometimes as long as 15 minutes. No problem upstairs, change the thermostat the heat comes on instantly. My house has high ceilings.

Recent Ice storm created an abundance of downed branches ranging in the right size- 2"- 8" in diameter- and I want to build a fence type handrail system for my stairway and top of stairwell with top and bottom rails with smaller vertical "sticks" between. I would prefer not having the bark on the wood and am prepared to draw it off. I am very handy, built the stairs myself, and patient.

Is this downed wood OK to use- do i need to wait until it is dry for shrinkage before carving off the ends? let dry first?
I have access to LOTS of ornamental silver leaf maple- is it too soft? Also sassafrass, red cedar, and limited amounts of black walnut. I could mix and match.
Please any wood workers who know their woods help me with selecting and preparing the right wood for my project- and also any construction tips- much to chainsaw and I dont want to cut up something I might need later. Thanks.

How do I tone down a yellow to give it more of a coffee-tea stained look. If you have been in an Olive Garden that is the color I want.

Is there any substance you can put over and paint on top of that, so as to disguise the unattractive looking plastic, and make it appear more like a wooden window frame?

Bleach doesn't work. I am losing a large number of garments because in a short time they get yellow under the arms. I use shields for garments with sleeves, but can find no solution for removing the stains from sleeveless tops. I do use anti-perspirent which helps a limited amount but not always. Thanks for any help you can suggest.

i have some gum on my carpet and i want to get rid of it without using all that fancy solutions. the gum is (please, if you have a weak stomach, don't read ahead) probably 3 years old (it's over near a corner, so i've really never noticed it) and it's hard. i tried to get some of it off with a spatula, but it only did 1/2 of the job. please help me! and fast!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this? They are pretty bad! They had a darker stain and now that she has chewed them it is very obvious. They are fairly new chairs so I cant afford to toss them and buy new ones. Is there a way I can stain them back to the original color? If so what do I need to do?

Thanks

my house has hardwood floors throughout and i've lived there for a year. Through usual wear and tear from the furniture moving i now have scratches on the floor, some are pretty deep. Whats the best method or product to use on them? And where would i find it? Any companies handle this sort of thing?

I once worked in a large country house where I was told to throw the coffee grounds down the sink as it is good for the sink. I am not sure if this is true. Does anyone know as I don't want to block my own sink.
