It sounds like it might need oiling. Mine did that and I just got some all purpose lubricating oil from the home depot and put it on all of the wheels and joints and it seemed to work. Mine is screw driven. if you have a belt driven one it might be something to do with the chain.

Try adjusting the sensivity on the main unit to allow more kick back pressure (its a safety thats for if something is under the door it senses pressure and kicks the door back open... rather than crushing it) In cold weather the tracks and rollers etc contract often causing more back pressure on the unit causing it to think something is under the door...
Its usually a simple adjustment with a screw driver on the side or back of the unit... increase it just a little to the + side till you get it to work like you want to..

all it takes is a little bit of moisture to freeze up try using lock de icer that comes in a spray can

1) ice
2) the wind
