I have steam cleaned my carpets for years myself. I do not like the cleaners currently available and thought I would try some homemade remedies. Has someone got a recipe that they have used themselves or seen used that really works well? I see them listed from time to time but have not tried any so please help? Thanks.

Okay, so I was just reading throught the "best answers of the year" section and someone asked how to get a light bulb that broke off in a lamp out, and someone else said next time to coat the base of the bulb with petroleum Jelly so that dosen't happen. My gut instinct says that thats a fire hazzard, but then again I could be wrong. Does that work? Is it a fire hazzard? And if it's not a fire hazzard could someone please explain to me why not, as petroleum is flamable, so why not it's jelly?

I'm moving. I'm renting out a small room in a small apartment... I need space. I want to build a loft in there.... Something I can put my bed on AND have room on top for other things like maybe a sitting space or some light storage. Where do I find plans to build such a structure? What is your advice on how to go about doing it? I have no experience with woodworking and I don't want this thing collapsing on me. I also don't have a lot of money to put into this.

Before I call a repairman what would cause a refrigerator that
was somewhat quiet to all of a sudden sound very loud? Maybe
there is a simple way to resolve the problem. For instance there
may be ice build up on the fan. Of course it is a self-defrosting
fridge. Thanks..........

Some estimate that the use of $1 of pesticides and herbicides increases agricultural productivity by $4. Assuming this estimate is valid, would you be willing to ban the use of pesticides and herbicides and pay about four times as much for fruits and vegetables, or do you feel comfortable with present risks? Explain your reasoning

My floor fan is covered in dust (both the propellers and the outside grate). What is the best way to clean off the dust? I tried dryer sheets (to attract the dust), but it didn't really work. Thanks for your help!

My clothes, (mostly green and gray) sometimes come out of the washing machine with grayish pink stains. We have used Tide powder and Tide liquid and the blotches still appear. What could possibly affect this, and would I have to buy a new waching machine. The washing maching I have now is a 700-900 (Canadian $) Spacemaker from 2002-2003.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, we have an 18 ft round above ground pool. The poor thing didn't have a fighting chance this past summer, we had two squirrels and a bird meet their fate in it, 8 holes in the liner and cold water so we never swam in it. We tried to keep up with it, but by fall it was filled with leaves and slimy green. We finally drained it completely, cleaned and disinfected it and then patched the holes. Its winter here now, do we have to fill it back up with water and winterize it or could we just leave it emtpy and fill it in the spring and hope for a better season? I don't know how sturdy the pool is without water and I've heard the liner could shrink and then cause it to cave in once we try to fill it again, does anyone have any concrete answers as to what to do with the pool?
Thanks!!

How can I paint over indoor semi-gloss WITHOUT having to sand or prime? I'm lazy and just want to cover the spots that are peeling. Its doors, baseboards, trim...WAY too much to sand/prime it all and I just dont have the time for all that pre-work.(the folks who lived here before me repainted a white semi gloss over a tan semi-gloss and its peeling terribly and looks like shyte.)

Without thinking... I blew in that shredded insulation (about 6 - 8 inches) over "old" faced insulation in an attic. Do I have to worry about moisture damage in the attic? I made sure that it didn't get blown into any air vents on the eaves.

Its brown-black one from a salad from a resturant.

I am not sure if it was pickled or not. I hate olives. I didn't eat it. A friend of mine did.

But I am wondering if I could grow some trees out of these four pits I have.
