I posted a question about a how-to on painting a wall previously, and for cleaning the wall before painting, a coulpe of people suggested "tsp". I've never heard of tsp, if you could explain what it is (I heard you can get it in a hardware store, though). I've also heard that some people might used soap and water, but wouldn't that ruin the wall? I thought it was bad to put water on wall surfaces. Also, what would you used to clean them? Sponge? Cloth? Others? Thanks. : )

I just bought a home and I can't stand the color of the existing granite countertops -- they're black and pepto-PINK!! They're in great shape and it's just silly to spend the kind of money needed to replace them. Is it possible to remove the sealant and stain the stone to a more neutral palette? Even if they went almost entirely black it would be an improvement over what I've got.

We went out for dinner, came home, and our central air conditioning system was not working. No breakers were tripped. The diagnostic lights on the compressor are blinking normal. I thought maybe it was the fuses on the condenser. Ran to Home Depot and changed those, and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

If we turn the system to cool, the fan comes on, and it seems like it's trying to kick the condenser over (the lights dim a little in the house), but it's just not going.

Any thoughts? Please help, it's HOT.

I have a shed with electric and I'd like to put an alarm out on it. I heard of someone making one out of an air horn before. Does anybody know how to do this?

When we moved into our apartment, we couldn't actually see the apartment first, only a model. It's infested with roaches, spiders, and ants. We've been living here for 7 months and our lease is up in January. My mom has been putting off hiring an exterminator, and it's just disgusting here. I'm literally afraid to eat anything that's not in the fridge. What are some sure fire ways I can scare the crap out of her( true things) and get her to hire an exterminator?

We just had an oval 12x24 above ground pool put in the back yard. Our yard is on a slope, so one end of the pool is at least a foot below the ground while the other end is level with the ground. I am unsure what to do with the drench that is at the one end of the pool and slopes to nothing at the other end. Do I fill in with dirt? With Sand? Or is that a bad thing, as I have read on some sites. I can't leave this big drench, it is a broken leg accident waiting to happen. Can someone advice please. Thanks

I bought a campbell hausfeld last year. it was a 26 gallon, and i think 5.5 HP. But the thing truly sucked. It would take it 15 minutes to fill up, and then as you were using it, sometimes it would take upwards to 25 mins to fill up again, even if it was just idle. I had it rebuilt under warranty, same thing happens when i got it back, so I pawned the sucker, i don't want any part of it.

Now I am in the market for another. Are all oil free compressors crap? I want something that will last me for years to come, and it seems that with no oil, parts will wear fast. I can't spend more than 300, so what do yall recommend? Thanks.

Since I can't seem to find an Insect section at Yahoo! Answers, I figured I'd post my question here.

I live in the south, and it's very hot and dry here right now, and I noticed today I have ants all over the place. They're not fire ants or carpenter ants...these are what I call "sugar" ants...the tee-tiny black ones. They seem to be conglomerating around water areas (bathroom sinks, bath tub, kitchen sink). Does anyone know a saft "home remedy" for getting rid of them? I say safe because I have two young toddlers who are into EVERYTHING. I would put down ant traps, but I'm worried my kids would see them as toys and try to eat them or get sick from them. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these ants?
