We went out for dinner, came home, and our central air conditioning system was not working. No breakers were tripped. The diagnostic lights on the compressor are blinking normal. I thought maybe it was the fuses on the condenser. Ran to Home Depot and changed those, and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

If we turn the system to cool, the fan comes on, and it seems like it's trying to kick the condenser over (the lights dim a little in the house), but it's just not going.

Any thoughts? Please help, it's HOT.

It sounds as if the compressor isn't starting. I could need a new start capacitor $30 service call $ 60 - 100.

The start capacitor is something you can replace yourself if you know about these things, but since you are on here asking you better call for a little help from you local HVAC pro.

Since you need to call for a repair, why not let him do a quick look over of your whole system?

This is like buying a new car , find someone you can trust not to sell you a pigs ear for a silk purse.

I own an HVAC company , been there done that , got the tee shirt, cut it up for a rag to wax the car with. I love being the last to send someone to your home after the other guys couldn't get it fixed. $$$$$$ That'll hurt

Maybe you got a Lemon: If your system is still under warranty kick them in teh can and tell them to fix it. If its not under warranty it might simply be getting warn out and needs a professional tune up. Good Luck sorry I couldn't be of more help being HOT is never fun.

Sorry but it is time to call for professional help. You have tried everything that you can without training on the system and any further attempts at this time could put you and or the equipment in danger.
