First of all...wait until dark. They are not active at night and aren't ready to come sting you. Next, get a ladder (extension ladder if needed) and knock it down...or you can get a power hose and blast it off with a high powered spray of water. Careful though..it's still dangerous. You just catch them off guard at night and have a better chance of avoiding being stung. And be sure to where some sort of protective clothing...would suck to be stung.

If it isn't active (make sure to watch it for about 10 minutes before you do anything), you can spray it off the roof, with a nozzle. It will take some time, and be quite messy. I did it once, and it was not pretty.
If it is active, you will need to call an exterminator. They will charge about 250 to get rid of it though, but it will beat the risk of getting stung by several hundred bees if you do it yourself.

Heavy duty plastic bag like an contractor bag from home depot. Climb up. Slide the bag over and seal the top. If bees frighten you, use smoke to calm them.

In my young years I have used a waterhose and lifted it away without protection. Don't recommend that though

DO NOT attempt to solve this problem on your own. Get proffesional help (exterminator, fire department, etc). In the meantime, try your best to stay away from it. If there are children in your household, warn them about the hive, and forbid them to go near it.

Look in your yellow pages for a local honey producer. They will USUALLY send out someone to collect the hive at no charge.

tie some strong string to your cars bumper. and then tie a fish hook to the other end. it has to be a long string. then hook the beehive. once its hooked. you take it for a drive. bee's are easy. its the hornets that are tough.

There's some spray that you can buy that shoots poison like 30 feet. It kills them instantly.
