I was in a pretty bad car wreck and messed up my back. I'm supposed to have surgery on it soon and they prescribed these oxycodones.. My friends tell me it's very addictive. I just don't want to get hooked on them. It says to take 1 or 2 in a every 12 hours. If i did this for awhile would i get addicted?

IS ANY ONE ABLE TO SHARE WITH ME ABOUT TOTAL HIP JOINT RELACMENTS? I HAVE HAD BOTH DONE, AND MY HIPS ARE AS PAINFUL AS EVER...BUT THE DOCTORS JUST LOOK AT THE REGULAR 2 YEARLY X RAY AND SAY..."IT GREAT" COME BACK IN 2 YEARS. DESPITE MEDICATION, FOR PAIN RELIEF, AND ANTI INFLAMITORY MED, PHYSIO,ECT ITS AWFUL,SOME DAYS I CANNOT BEAR WEIGHT FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINIUTES AND I MUST LIE DOW.

WHAT IS THE EXPECTED LIFE SPAN OF THESE, I AM 50 AND HAVE HAD THEM 7 YEARS BUT ITS NEVER BEEN GOOD.MY QUALITY OF LIFE NEVER IMPROVED, AND ITS CHRONIC NATURE IS TAKING ITS TOLL.
THE MORE I DO AS I SHOULD, LIKE PHYSIO, HYDRO,MASSAGE,MEDS, AND OTHER I JUST GET GREATER PAIN RATHER THAN LESS.THEY ARE INFORMED OF MY PROBLEM AND I BELIEVE I HAVE A GOOD LEVEL OF COMMUNICATION WITH THEM.

ANY ANSWERS APPRIECIATED.

Just wondering what other people with RSD are on med wise?

I am currently on OxyContin (just for pain before they diagnosed my with RSD) and Ambien for sleeping b/c of the pain by my primary physician.

My orthopeadic onocologist (who diagnosed me with RSD) put me on Elavil today. He said it was for nerve blocking? But anywhere on the internet says it is an antidepressant.

My ortho wants me to go completely off of OxyContin but I can't imagine what kind of pain I'll be in if I dont have that pain med. And he is completely against pain meds in general. Considering I'm still in a massive amount of pain. And that I have to function in everyday life.

I'm just looking for some advice from someone who has RSD. I'm new to this....

when i was in highschool i severely sprained my left ankle, that was over 6 years ago and my ankle never completely healed... it has been doing great for a long while but has recently been giving me problems (in the last week - 2 weeks). it started as the pain you get when you tweak your ankle or step on it the wrong way, then moved to the front (where my foot bends). in the last couple days it has moved to my heel as well. i'm trying to ice it as much as i can, but it's hard to stay off of it as i work 3 jobs that all require me to stand for my shifts... are there any braces that you guys recommend? any stretches or home remedies you know of? i don't have insurance so i try to steer away from the doctor unless its a real emergency...

thanks for any help!

Let's forget about the moral issues here. I'm sure people who have drug addictions do this, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has had a valid medical condition where the pain is so overwhelming that they can't function - and their regular doctor refuses to prescribe anything that helps.
Would you consider trying to find a doctor you knew would give you the meds without question?
I'm starting to understand why someone might do this. I have severe pelvic pain from endometriosis, PCOS and ovarian cysts. I've had multiple surgeries, but nothing even dulls the pain. I was having a severe headache (which is common during my cycle) and saw one of those urgent care doctors. He gave me 15 pills of this medicine, and after 10 years of constant suffering, I finally felt relief. I looked it up and ti was a narcotic though. My doc says I just have to live with the pain, but I don't agree. I was taking 30 advil a day and still was in great pain. Anyone else out there feel the same way?

don't know if i should take all 30 because i heard they are extremely addicting. could i get addicted from one prescription? im just like paranoid about stuff like that because so many kids from my town i heard got addicted to pain killers and then went to heroin (but they also were abusing them)

I had a cysit drained on the top of my wrist last November. It came back around mid December and it was almost 3 times bigger, so I went back to the doctor who removed it the first time and he said I would need to have surgery. Well, now it has almost been 6 months since my surgery and now I am getting dull, but painful, pains up and down my palm, mainly in my index finger and thumb, they sometimes go into my arm. It will tingle and after I get home from work it hurts so much I feel like crying. My mom thinks it could be carpal tunnel. I did some research on it and the signs are the same. But could it have something to do with the surgery?

I'm sitting here thinking of all the different type of women and how our period effects us differently. There are those who have light to nothing have never had a cramp and those who have cramps, back aches, legs ache I mean you literally feel like your falling apart.
Even your whole mood changes, some cry, some get angry, some, feel an emotional reck.
Any anyone give me some clarity?

I know sometimes your joints can stick and hurt untill you bend them again but other than that i dont know what this could be.

I have a lot of chronic problems--hypothyroidism, high blood problems and a rascally case of depression that just won't be treated right now. I've tried all the meds, I've tried all the combinations of meds, and I'm miserable and stuck (not a joke). Have you tried acupuncture? Do you think it would help my situation?
