are you doing alot of exercises for your low back/butt area? if so it could be due to your piriformis muscle being swollen..it is a very small muscle that goes through a very small opening in your pelvis and when it swells up it causes numbness and tingling down your leg.. try putting ice on it and there is also a stretch you can do...
i will try to describe it for you..lie down on your back, then bend the knee of the leg that hurts and twist your lower body over for example say bring your right leg across your body so your knee touches the floor on your opposite side and hold the stretch for about 20 seconds try doing it 4 times and see it that helps you out..

It sounds like a pinched nerve. That would be painful!
