Let's forget about the moral issues here. I'm sure people who have drug addictions do this, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has had a valid medical condition where the pain is so overwhelming that they can't function - and their regular doctor refuses to prescribe anything that helps.
Would you consider trying to find a doctor you knew would give you the meds without question?
I'm starting to understand why someone might do this. I have severe pelvic pain from endometriosis, PCOS and ovarian cysts. I've had multiple surgeries, but nothing even dulls the pain. I was having a severe headache (which is common during my cycle) and saw one of those urgent care doctors. He gave me 15 pills of this medicine, and after 10 years of constant suffering, I finally felt relief. I looked it up and ti was a narcotic though. My doc says I just have to live with the pain, but I don't agree. I was taking 30 advil a day and still was in great pain. Anyone else out there feel the same way?

How do you convince a male doctor that your female problems are causing sever pain when he has no comprehension of what you're going through?

I felt absolutely no side effect from this pain medicine, other than a little bit of dry mouth and dry eyes. It made me a little tired, but nothing tremendous. I didn't feel loopy and don't feel the need to take them needlessly. What's the big deal with helping people stop feeling pain?

I'm 27 and want children. Hysterectomies are not proven to stop the endo - so I wouldn't consider one anyway.
I feel like these jerky male docs think this pain is all in my head, but I'm so nauseated from the pain, on top of being completely immobile from it. I've tried breathing exercises and meditation just so I can get out of bed in the morning. My doc says my birth control will start working, I've taken them for 4 years with no help. He put me on 3 month cycles so now I have breakthrough bleeding for a good 6 weeks out of each cycle - meaning MORE pain. I'm starting to think there are no doctors who understand this.

You need to find a pain management doctor. All they do is deal with people who live with pain every single day. So many regular doctors are terrified to prescribe narcotics because the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) is always watching and they fear losing their license. Pain management doctors are allowed to write more of these prescriptions because they are specialists. They see people that have all kinds of pain. You don't have to see a gynecologist or your primary doctor. It's time to see someone who understands the pain you are in and CAN help you.....and WILL.

I would find another doctor. There are some people who seek pain drugs when they don't need them and your current doc may have seen too many of those situations so he is hesitant to prescribe pain meds to someone who really needs them. If you are in the type of pain you describe, you need to find someone who can help you get the treatment you need.

Try to find someone who is knowledgeable in pain management. Have you also looked into alternative therapies to help with the pain as well? Some people have found that things like acupuncture, massage therapy, meditation, visualization, etc can help manage chronic pain. You might be surprised what can help.

Also, if the regular dose of Advil isn't helping, 30 won't make a difference....except to destroy your liver. Have your doc get you on the correct dose of a medication that helps instead of allowing you to continue to overdose on over the counter stuff that will just cause more problems later.

You need to find another doctor, but not one that passes out painkillers like candy.

My wife had been going through the agonies of the damned with back pain for years and is still having trouble getting any relief.

I would suggest you find a female Ob-Gyn to examine you and try to get you some relief. Narcotics might be a temporary relief, but the risk of addiction and the need for increasing dosage is too big a danger.

And you need to quit overdosing with the Advil, it can cause liver damage. That is the last thing you need.

Good Luck and God Bless.

Honey if you are in that much pain and your MD wont help by all means find one that will help you!!!!!!! How old are you? If you have had children and dont want anymore ask for a hysterectomy! As for the question at hand, I would not trust a doctor that would just call in a RX without seeing you unless it is a refill. I know your pain sweety and it is hell but you have to get help the right way. Look for a new OB/GYN!

No one should have to deal with constant pain. Check into seeing a pain management specialist, and GET Rid of that quack your seeing. Try seeing a fertility specialist. That's what I was sent to in the Air Force. When I asked why since I wasn't trying to get pregnant at the time...........I was told there the specialists when it comes to female problems. The doctors I saw helped me. Most of them were male and understood me.

You have no choice but to keep seeking advice from different doctors until you find one that can offer a solution to suit you.
If you go alternate you'll end up addicted to perscription drugs which will make you a drug addict constantly wanting more.
Its just doesn't work. And it won't work for you this way.
You have to find a better long term solution even if it means more surgery.
