On November 26, 1999, I had a stroke and a a cerebral hemmorhedge. I'm smart and funny. However, it takes me a little longer to lern and have a slight vision impairment. I'm tired of taking term positions in my area and having to take tests THEN an interview. In some job interviews I tell them about my brain injury, and I don't get a phone call after, when I don't tell them, they accuse my of hiding the truth. I'm not sure what to do. This is a fairly small town (about 19,000) and am discouraged and frustrated. And yes, tired.
Why can't I be hired for me and not my disability? Where should I go to talk about this? And figure out my life...?

A co-worker and good friend of my husband's fell down a flight of stairs last night and died of a broken neck. How does a broken neck kill somebody? What happens? Does the person die slowly or quickly? Why did it kill him?

Ok, I don't mean to be gross but my toenail fell off last night and I have no idea why. I do not have a fungus, I didn't stub it or drop anything on it, it didn't turn black or anything and it didn't hurt. I just took my sock off and it was just hanging there by a little piece of skin.
I do run, and have heard of this happening to runners, but I don't run THAT much (about 6 miles a week) and have only read that when they fall off on runners they turn black first and mine didn't. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

While sort of belly-flopping onto my bed, my leg hit the edge just below the knee. My leg was completely straight and I think it, um, "unbent" more than a leg normally unbends. I immediately thought, "shoot, that didn't mess up a tendon or something, did it?" but it didn't really hurt much, it hurt like something that's just been whacked against a semi-hard surface.

That was about 3 hours ago. Now I have this mild pain shooting down my leg every few seconds, and when I change position. It barely hurts, but it's strange. It starts about halfway down the front of my shin and gets most intense at the top of my foot. When I chang my position, sometimes I feel it at my knee, too.

I'd like to avoid going to the hospital. I want to do something to minimize the damage, whatever I can do to make it not get worse.

What do you recommend I do? Put ice on it? Put heat on it? Walk it off? Do squat exercises? Keep my leg still for a day? Take muscle relaxants? Avoid muscle relaxants?

Thanks!!

I was doing a stunt(where i'm up in the air) and i fell down and landed on my ankle. When i went to the hospital my doctor told me i had torn my tendens and my ligaments. I had also sprained my ankle. My ankle is still very swollen and it hurts. I can't point my toes and i can't jump very well. (all cheerleaders know that pointing toes and jumping is very important.) My competition is next saturday and it needs to be better by then so i can stunt, jump, and point my toes. Help me!

Well, this is what happened yesterday. I was in PE and we had to get in groups of three and do thing thing where you bounce a ball and never mind about that, about 10 minutes later I was chasing my groups ball and Justin, this weird guy in the grade above me, was running trying to catch his groups ball in the other direction and I didn't see him and we ran into each other, he went falling forward and I went falling backwards, he landed on his head I landed on my butt. He's fine, I'm not. As I said, I can't run, bend over, lean back, but I can walk and sit and talk still. How long should it take to stop hurting and what should I do about the bowling thing with my class tomarrow, and I have a dance on Friday, and I have to go to a Christmas thing that we always do late.

my friend runs everyday for cross country and she also plays basketball on a team. lately she has been complaining about how her back hurts so much. Since she has still been running and playing basketball after she hurt it, the pain has gotten steadily worse. She can barely move at all without wincing, and it isnt only her back anymore. I have been trying to show her how to twist to crack her back but she can't and she tried a stretch whre you lay on your stomach and slowly work up until your arms are straight and your back is curved. It just made her back hurt worse and didnt accomplish anything. Does anybody know of anything that would help?

I fell on my elbow last week and it has been extremely painful, especially when it gets touched or hit. The bruising and swelling was immediate and is still pretty aparant. Now, after I bump it I can't bend my arm all the way for a little while and it throbs pretty bad. I never had it checked out, and I'm wondering if I need to start thinking abou that. Or, is this what happens when you really hit your elbow hard and am I just being a wimp?

My grandmother has broken her upper arm. The surgeon says because of the severe osteoporosis she will not heal. This is the second break in the same place and the last time it took 9 months and weird devices to heal the break. They can't do general anesthetics because of allergies and won't put pins or plates in because the doc says it will just break the bone more.

She is currently in your average arm sling and a special brace and has been instructed not to move the arm at all. She is not compliant at all and continues to use the arm whenever not directly supervised. She has mild to moderate dementia. I have bandaged her hand directly to her chest to prevent movement but she still manages to move it.

I need a way to prevent her from moving the limb when she is not supervised. Can the elbow and shoulder be completely immobilized in a special sling or brace? Should we just bandage the arm directly to her side? Help I am at a loss here.

Usually when I twist an ankle it only hurts for a few days. This one has been hurting for two weeks. The pain is mild and not constant, but it seems like it has lasted too long.
