Yes, with impaired circulation due to Diabetes Melitus, the fingernails and fingers can contract gangrene that kills the living tissue. Either the fingers, feet, nails fall off or they are amputated. because without amputation the offending organism can infiltrate the blood and basically cause a massive infection resulting in death.Raynard's Syndrome is an auto immune disorder that causes vaso-spasticities in the digits and can result in severe impairment of circulation resulting in nail loss and or finger, toes, ears and nose loss due to death of the tissue. That's all I'm familiar with and you will be just fine. Oh yes, trauma to a digit can result in nail loss. Many times if the growth plate is not disturbed, they will grow back. Sometimes they don't. Have a safe year. The flesh eating bacteria could also theoretically make nails fall off. That's all I can think of for now. Oops, leprosy can cause this also. OK, I think I'm done. Whew!!!

Yes, it eventually will become loose and fall off,, if, you have jammed, smashed and maybe infected and the blood clot underneath has been drained,, it is the process, before it starts to regrow a new one..But sometimes, it doesn't happen overnite, I smashed my thumb (bruising and swelling) right b4 xmas,, by new year it aches so bad,, I needed to get the blood drain out, to fill better, it took about 1 1/2 to 2 wks b4 the nail started to fall off and a new one start to grow,, but it took 3 month b4 it really grew back like it was b4 I hurt it..

Yeah one of mine did when I had artificial nails and broke one of my fingers. It got all purple(my finger that is) and the artificial nail made my natural nail fall off! It was sooooooooooo gross but I grew a new nail thank goodness!

Sure, they fall off if you injure them. I lost a couple of my toe nails after having chemotherapy, but they grew back.
