I reciently thought of this question: Can a human brain become infected by a virus or other germ? After all, there are many bacteria in the bloodstream. So why can't the brain become infected? Is it just that the fatty content of the brain isn't very ...yummy... for germs? Are there germs that do that, and are simply rare? Or does the brain have special ways to kill these germs before they can get there? I have never heard of a "brain infection" other than cancer or a mental disease, and that's not what i'm talking about.

I was diagnosed with diabetes at 13 in aug. 2006. I had a doctor appointment today. In nov. i had my blood tested and had high antibodies. They were wondering if it was just because i was diagnosed shortly before. Now i need to get tested again to see if the antibodies are still high. What are the chances of this and what do i need to do. It is called celiac disease and I am worried. I know I can't have cereal and cereal is like my favorite food. Is there a cure coming soon?

ok, back in the days, about 13 years ago i handled mercury from a broken thermometer, i was young so to me it looked like fun, so i played with it for a while and lost it in one room, im guessing it stayed there somewhere separated like it does when you drop it....i read a list about low dose poisoning symptoms and quite a few seem to fit me...does anyone know if the amount on a thermometer can be enough to poison me and if that small amount that stayed in the room lasted in there or decipated away??? can anyone help?? thanks

I have checked my blood pressure several times at pharmacy and it was in Pre-hypertension level. A couple of times it was normal. Had it checked in ER a couple of days ago and the bottom number was 97. They checked it again a couple of hours later and it was 97. Checked it today and it was pre-hypertension level. I was told to see doctor but I am thinking of getting bp kit and checking it myself. My questions are,....Does one have to have CONSTANT high bp to be diagnosed? Also at what level do they usually put someone on meds? And last but not least,...are the meds for hypertension expensive?
hypertension runs in my family but don't want to worry my family with telling them as I recently found out I was hypoglycemic and they are worried about that already. I know that if someone has diabetes they like for their bp to be lower. But is that the same for hypoglycemia also?

Any help is much appreciated. I have read up in the net and can't find the answers to these questions.

I am 20 years old. Last year I was diagnosed with tendonitis in my shoulders, yesterday I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthiritis in my hip. Both od these allments usually only affect people twice my age. I am wondering if any one knows of a disease that would cause pains in joints and tendons. I'm finding it hard to believe they are both just coincidental.

I am a 20 yr old female and I have a really good desk job...however, the price I pay is that my feet and ankles and calves get really swollen! I am a small woman and I work out to look good, but my legs and feet get huge from sitting at my desk. What can I do, other than drink water because I drink a lot already, to stop or slow the swelling and get rid of it now that it's here? Please tell me it's not here to stay!!

Monday night my brother started having a fever and having flu symptoms. The doctor came and perscribed antibiotics. Yesterday, he started throwing up and having a stomach ache (I think he threw up the antibiotics). So we call the doctor and he doesn't know what it is so he tells us to go to the hospital. We go, they say he might have apendicitis but since the pain is like in spasms and it's on the upper abdomen they don't think so. They take and xray of his lungs to check that he doesn't have pneumonia (he doesn't) Then a surgeon sees him and tells us to come back the next day so they can take a sonogram of his abdomen. They take the sonongram, but don't see a thing. What can he have???

My husband had cataract surgery at a young age (36) just about 1 year ago. Over the course of the year, every so often he will have a small seizure like symptom were he blacks out for a few seconds. He has been fighting headaches which he describes as an (ice cream) headache...quick, intense pain. He can go weeks without a problem or days, it just depends. This past week we are noticing the post cataract eye pupil will enlarge and the normal eye will constrict and even appear saggy or lazy. Both eyes are affected at the same time and it will last various periods of time. Any input, suggestions or thoughts?

THANK YOU!

Alk Phosphate = 300 U/l (normal is 120 max)
GGT = 181 U/l (normal is 40 max)

I just got my results yesterday and had a brief discussion with my doctor, he is sending me to a specialist. But he didn't say what I should do, and i forgot to ask.

Do I stay in bed? Can I go to work? Should I avoid any foods or medicines like paracetamol? How can I help my liver?

I am so confused....!!!!?
Random pains........should i be concerned????
or is it just normal.....????

i feel sharp or achy pain in random bones like different ribs (both back and front....) ( my ribs start to hurt quiet sharply upon application of slight pressure...like resting a book against my ribs when carrying it in my hand)
and pains in the bones of my forearms....(both radius and ulna)....and also my fingers and palm
and sometimes in my vertibrea.....
i also have random pains in random parts of my head.......

all the pains are spontaneous and short lived.....
what could it mean???

i havent suffered from any trauma.....

i am 17............................... lbs...
have stopped growing completely......at least in height

the pains are kinda frequent.....like several times a day

not all that related......
but if a sleep with my elbow folded.....without any other pressure on it......my hand goes numb......almost every night....completely numb

thanx for answering
