My father drank the radioactive iodine about 15 years ago and has never had a problem out of it. He just takes a pill everyday and thats it. It's a very small pill. Thyroids can grow back after being removed so he though it would be easier to drink the iodine than to go through surgey. It is a lot easier to do. He was just told not to get in any kids face for about three days. Other than that it has been a good and has never had any problems.
Thyroid releases hormones and works with the patuitary gland. If it is overactive you will lose a lot of weight and get very sick and not be able to sleep good or stop being jittery. Underactive makes you weak, sleepy, and gain weight. Both can be life threatening if not treated. My dad would probably be dead now he hadn't gotten to the doctor when he did. Of course he waited WAY to long to go to the doctor. The doctor said another 24 hours he would have been gone! So if you are having thyroid problems it is serious so be sure to have it checked. Good luck

check your thyroxine levels, it could be either too much or too little thyroxine.Depending on whether you have a partial or total thyroidectomy, you could have to take thyroxine for a long period of time.
