Diarrhea is only a "real" problem to MD's if you get dehydrated, which you will do and get admitted to the hospital (or more likely have a long ER stay) for intravenous rehydration when you stop drinking fluids. Gatoraid or a similar solution comprised of a few spoonfuls of sugar and a pinch of salt will do the same trick- you should also eat a few bananas if you can to replace the potassium you are losing as well.
If you have fevers, have traveled to a foreign country in the past month, blood in your diarrhea or have taken antibiotics in the last 6 months, you should mention this to your doc (if they didn't already ask) otherwise, take the immodium (or lomotil) until your diarrhea stops, or this continues for another week or so...after which they will need to do some more testing to see what the source of this may be...often times keeping a journal of all the foods you eat can be useful to tease out particular foods that may be causing the problem, such as dairy...

I have mentioned to another individual about using a probiotic called Florastor for their IBS related diarrhea. Imodium is alright but you need to keep your system moving. Imodium stops the gut motility and that can be unhealthy, Florastor on the other hand helps rebuild the gut flora.
Good luck and this product is OTC but you need to ask your pharmacist for it.

I would go back to your doctor. Immodium is good medicine, and usually works very well. If Immodium isn't helping you, then your doctor needs to know about it.
