The symptoms you are describing sounds like an allergic reaction. Hives, pruritis, swelling, and other skin reactions are common allergic reactions. This is in contrast to just having normal side effects from a medication, such as nausea, stomach ache, etc. I would call the physician who prescribed the medication, but I would also stop the medication as well. There are several alternatives to Metronidazole, depending on the condition for which you are being treated which you should discuss with your physician. Benadryl can help aleviate your symptoms in the interum. Should your symptoms progress or you develop a more serious side effect such as difficulty breathing, you should then seek immediate medical attention.

Don't use any more until you talk to your Doctor. Hives are sometimes the symptom of a serious allergic reaction. Throwing up and not feeling well are your body telling you that somethings not right. It might not be the medication, but better safe then sorry. Call your doctor right away!

Take 2 Benadryl right now, and call or your doctor's on-call service, or just go to the emergency room NOW. Your having a serious allergic reaction. DO NOT take anymore of your medication till you see your doctor! If you go to the emergency room now, have someone else drive you. Good luck, and take care!
